Since its publication, the list of individual storms, each of which could trigger a crisis by itself, has grown even larger. We are currently witnessing the greatest list of threats towards western civilization we have faced since the Great Depression and World War II!

Here is an updated, yet still partial list of large storm warnings:

Geopolitical Turmoil

With the Ukraine situation, the increasing tension over Taiwan’s fate, as well as ongoing tensions in the Middle East and Africa, each one of these could escalate and cause chaos and more bloodshed. The resulting impact on your products and market may be the least of your concerns.

Real or perceived threat of more pandemics

The fears of disruption due to Covid-19 seem to be losing their power, but there are many threats still out there. Each of which is now amplified due to the continuing weaknesses brought on by the forced lockdowns we just experienced. Many of the other threats on this list increased, due to the actions taken for Covid-19 so far.

The Green Agenda

The plans to go “carbon neutral” in the next decades (before a viable and affordable source of replacement energy is in place) are already disrupting the supply chain and power grids. This looks to get worse before it gets better.

Supply Chain Breakdowns

Threats to farming and transportation, plus the increase in energy costs are already causing supermarket shelves to be less crowded than at any time in the last few generations. Also, a large majority of the most critical and sophisticated computer chips, needed for many necessary products and defense, come from Taiwan. Any disagreement with China could spin quickly out of control. Again, impact on your market may be the least of your worries.

Global Stock Market Peak?

We have just witnessed the longest downtrend in world markets since the Great Depression. With history as a guide, this too will probably get worse before it gets better.

Finance costs rising with Interest rates

It is currently “risk-off” in the financial markets as government, corporate and private debt continues to increase. No news here. The news is that, after 40 years of nearly continuous sinking interest rates, culminating in negative rates, the price of borrowing is now increasing. It will cost more to borrow.

Increase in time, frustration and money for administration

If you have tried to move money, open a bank- or trading account recently, you have become familiar with the KYC or Know Your Customer and AML Anti-Money Laundering rules and regulations. Finance organizations are becoming increasingly scared to do even simple transactions without enormous, costly and time-consuming background checks. More time spent on admin means less time spent on sales.

Any one of these, or other triggers could cause chaos throughout the world, not to mention your business. The question becomes how can you prepare for even more chaos so that you and your organization survive and thrive during the coming years of increased uncertainty?

Get AGILE!

The more you can increase your ability to quickly respond to changes in the market, the better your chance to survive and even thrive in these challenging and unprecedented times. Here are just a few suggestions of what you can do to increase your business agility.

Increase your customer loyalty

Maintaining and expanding your base of customers who can, "warmly and spontaneously recommend your products and company", is the cheapest way to market and sell. Simple steps to improve your customer’s loyalty are:

Better customer communication

This can be done via better training offerings, better feedback loops and anything else that improves your ability to listen with all your senses to each customer’s needs, wants and wishes and serve them better from this knowledge.

Becoming more attractive

This means doing away with all forms of customer capture so that your customer no longer feels forced to do business with you. This is riskier, but long term, it will force you to be sharper and word will spread fast if your customers notice a distinct and attractive difference.

Support, honor and inspire your employees and colleagues

Even though the job market is beginning to show signs of tightening, having a happy and motivated staff is more important than ever. With decision-making delays, lay-offs and salary-cuts increasing in probability, it is important that you strengthen your team’s spirit via each individual. There are simple steps that cost little or nothing.

Increase you corporate training initiative

The pace of development keeps expanding exponentially. Making sure your team keeps up to date with the latest knowledge and competencies will both insure increased customer loyalty and demonstrate your honor for and commitment to your personnel for being the best.

Also, training is an extremely trusted and useful two-way communication channel for marketing internally to employees and associates, as well as to customers.

Increase your cash-flow

An effective way to exercise more control over the money you can use is to begin using a Rolling Budget. This provides you with more flexibility to move unproductive money to more productive departments and projects. The yearly budget originally comes from agriculture. If you are not involved with farming it may well be worthwhile to mold your budget around your product and service cycles instead of the changing seasons.

Setting up a Dynamic Navigation System or DNS

Although business "dashboards" have been popular for over a generation, they are still, for the most part, backward looking. We have developed a system, which we liken to a pilot-house on a ship. It respects your historical data, while focusing on giving you real-time or up to date feedback on the current situation. It forces you and your management team to look towards your business horizon. It provides you with information needed to not only make quicker and more grounded decisions, but also creates a more agile management atmosphere where there is no longer any excuse to "think about" the choices before acting decisively. Although using a DNS in your company may upset those married to "Business As Usual", it will not only spotlight them and their less-than-agile behavior, it will also encourage them either to change that behavior or move on to a more comfortable job.

There are many other simple, yet effective Business Agility tools and methods that can add to your future survival and success. Please take a look at our book and we at CAG International and our colleagues at Haig Barrett and Oclas would be very happy to communicate further with you and your management group on the best ways to start.

Mon, 10 Oct 2022 09:04:15 +0000 augustin 166 at https://www.caginternationalag.com Radical Business Agility https://www.caginternationalag.com/blog/radical-business-agility Radical Business Agility augustin Tue, 05/31/2022 - 16:36

By

Kurt Larsson

2022-05-31

And navigating the age of uncertainty!

For more than two years now we have all experienced the most uncertain and turbulent business climate since, at least, the Great Depression of the 1930s. For those of you whose businesses have survived and prospered, congratulations!

Consciously or not, you have embraced what Radical Business Agility is all about.

Here is just some of the uncertainties we have faced during the past 24 months:

Worldwide lockdowns caused by Covid-19 and all its variations

People radically changing their behavior out of fears, often driven by the media.

A social media driven culture that seems to drive groups apart.

Politicians creating laws and mandates that go against business and human nature

A business world that is frightened, contracting and delaying decisions

A big, noble and “perfectly timed” push, to greatly reset the world towards a green future.

And now, the threat of an expanding war, which could include nuclear weapons!

And you as a business person, have had to either get agile, or die; just as we wrote, more than five years ago, in our first pioneering book, “Mastering Agility, Successfully Navigating Uncertainty”. In it, we described the coming megatrends and the perfect storm that were then brewing. This was before business agility was cool! We also provided tools, tips and tricks on what to do about it. As practice always trumps theory, we now have practical proof from our friends at McKinsey that our predictions of the necessity of Business Agility are coming true. Add to this, the “in the trenches experience” of successfully applying business agility methods and it is obvious that radical business agility has now become essential to surviving and thriving in this post-Covid-19 World.

We, at CAG International AG, have not been immune to market uncertainty either. Some plans we were poised to implement just before the Pandemic are only now beginning to manifest. Being an international startup has presented us with its own unique challenges. Each country has reacted in different and sometimes conflicting ways. Our company, which has its headquarters in Switzerland, its stock listed on the Vienna Bourse OTC, its production arm in Sweden, management and shareholders all over the world, has been forced to radically think outside the box to improvise, adapt and overcome many different obstacles.

We are pleased and proud to say that we have, so far, successfully navigated our way through the uncertainty generated by most of these obstacles. We are now finally on our way to implementing our long-planned business strategy. We have now finalized our first, long overdue deal, acquiring Haig Barrett Consulting Ltd.

This will increase the size, power and agility of our company to consult, teach and guide other companies on how to be more agile. We will continue to build an international online learning powerhouse using our unique CORETM carveout-sourcing business tool. The big difference now is, we not only have our own experiences of success to share with our clients, we also understand and know how to deal with real-time challenges and defeats as well. One could say that we were forced to walk-the-talk.

Live and Learn

So, what have we, at CAG International AG, learned through our own experiences of navigating through the last two years of massive uncertainty? Among other things:

Always have a plan-B and plan-C.
Sometimes painfully, we have realized that our plan-A was usually based in old, “business as usual” thinking. Have you also noticed that most of what worked, only two years ago, no longer doesn’t?

Be present to the situation before you, here and now.
Dancing with someone who memorized the steps from a book feels completely different than dancing someone who is flowing with you here and now. Dealing with today’s business challenges with yesterday’s strategies and tactics is dangerous and can, sometimes overnight, become politically-incorrect, or even unlawful!

Keep looking ahead.
Possibilities only exist here and now and looking forward. Looking back only drains us of our remaining precious and finite energy, groveling over all the opportunities we, consciously or not, missed. Referencing the past is ok, as long as you face forward.

Make it personal.
Most problems can be handled by clear, understandable and friendly communication with decision makers. It is when you don’t communicate, and the other party needs to guess that problems arise. For instance, late on a bill? Call the person responsible and explain the situation. 95% of the time they will understand and a new agreement can be reached. Then honor it, if you can, or call, update and renegotiate if you cannot.

The Growing Importance of Soft-Skills

The biggest difference we have noticed between pre Covid and post Covid times is that Soft-Skills are becoming much more important. First, your ability to negotiate the digital path to the real, live human being, who is directly responsible for your question or challenge, is paramount. Combining this with your increased capacity to communicate effectively and compassionately has become a major factor in your ability to create and improve your business agility. Going forward, all these skills, combined with all the other tools, tips and tricks we have been talking about for years, will be the deciding factors as to whether you and your organization just survives or thrives.

Finally, our new book “Radical Business Agility”, is available (Link below). In it you will get an updated, more useable understanding of the powerful megatrends, as well as the various components of the Perfect Storm that we now find ourselves stuck in. Most importantly, you will find proven tools, tips and tricks of both the hard-skill and soft-skill kind that can directly affect your ability and success to do business going forward.

Tue, 31 May 2022 14:36:55 +0000 augustin 126 at https://www.caginternationalag.com Business Agility Increases Organizational Immunity https://www.caginternationalag.com/blog/business-agility-increases-organizational-immunity Business Agility Increases Organizational Immunity augustin Tue, 03/22/2022 - 07:41

By

Kurt Larsson

2020-06-09

Can Business Agility be used to immunize your organization?

Immunizing your organization with Business Agility tools can help increase resistance to market turbulence and other business diseases. One of the biggest controversies currently raging is how to handle Covid-19. Four camps have emerged:

Therapeutics - curing

Vaccination – man-made prevention

Increasing Immunity – natural prevention via better health

A combination of those three

What if this same discussion can be applied to the sudden and completely unplanned-for effects of the almost global mandated lockdown caused by the virus? Can Business agility help?

Is the Cure worse than the Disease?

In trying to cure the effects of the lockdown, many governments have attempted to give away free money to keep the economic system afloat. First, this prolongs the life of clinically-dead/Zombie companies with newly printed or taxpayer money, inspiring even more irresponsible behavior by those companies lucky enough to get bailed-out. An inquiring business mind might wonder, “What does giving away free money have to do with capitalism?”

An even bigger, follow-up question becomes whether or not there exists enough “free money" to therapeutically accomplish this solution, especially when measured against the unprecedented and disastrous economic contraction these same players caused? And, what happens to the remaining, yet decreasing trust in this solution if/when taxpayers begin to inquire more deeply as to the origin, sanity and long-term effects of this “free money” approach?

Prevention or suspension?

Vaccination or “man-made prevention” in this case can be likened to the locking down of everyone, healthy as well as sick, into their homes or neighborhoods. Vaccines “prevent” infection by injecting a small dose of the virus into the body. This approach often causes a mild to violent reaction/side-effect in the recipient. Evidence would suggest that lockdowns also seem to cause side effects too. Isn’t it more or less common sense that a big side-effect of staying inside, without benefit of sunshine and exercise, is a decrease in your immunity and an increase in frustration? What happens when these lockdowns are lifted or, the trend of frustrated and healthy people refusing to honor them continues to increase? Will you and your business be ready to handle a possibly drastic surge in new business, while still having to guard against increased infection risk for your employees and friends?

Immunity, Natural prevention (without side effects).

Increasing your immunity (and the “Herd’s”), so far, seems to have been undervalued and underreported. This approach has historically been shown to improve our chances to avoid sickness and reduce the severity, should we indeed catch something. There are some national experiments (such as Sweden’s) now in progress that should provide up to date and measurable evidence of how true this still is. When it comes to the virus du jour, different reports cite Vitamin D, Zinc, Vitamin C, sunshine, fresh air and exercise as effective ways to increase your chances of at least reducing the threat of infection.

Each one of these vitamins, as well as sunshine, fresh air and exercise can be thought of as tools to improve your body’s immunity. Used consciously and correctly, they all seem to contribute to making your system stronger and more resistant to dis-ease in general. Most have no side-effects when taken responsibly. Now how does this relate to your business and markets?

Immunity and Business Agility

Employing proven Business Agility tools, responsibly, correctly and at the proper time, can act as vitamins and exercise for your organization, strengthening its resistance to unexpected market turbulence and other forms of dis-ease. Simple things like a better understanding of what business agility is and accurately measuring how agile your company currently is can provide a great start. A comprehensive workshop and/or using an agility index to benchmark your current business agility status will do the trick to uncover your organization’s immunity strengths and weaknesses

Once these data points are revealed, other simple, but powerful and proven tools can be employed to empower your organization and further increase its resistance to market turbulence. Of course, there are more sophisticated tools and indexes that can radically empower your organization as well. Some specific actions to take can include the following:

· Routinely reviewing your marketing strategy and making sure it addresses your current and constantly changing market horizon.

· Changing your budget system from an annual one to a rolling budget system and freeing up unused or inefficiently placed funds in the process.

· Anchoring important decisions more deeply and firmly with your employees by including more of them in the process.

· Creating a “skunk works” to get the creative juices flowing again.

· Assessing your corporate training offer and improving both its output and input, both internally as well as externally to your end users.

· Lessening dependence upon historical KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) by installing a DNS or Dynamic Navigation System to better monitor your current status, measure forward progress and eliminate unnecessary delays caused by managerial excuses.

All of the above business agility tools can also be applied to strengthen you organization, regardless of the business environment, with little or no side-effects.

There are other, more sophisticated ways to strengthen your organization’s immune system and yes, a combination of three approaches cannot hurt, but the major message is to start now! The quicker you establish a collaborative, business agility culture within your organization, the quicker your ability to protect yourself from all forms of market dis-ease will be strengthened and your bottom line enriched. Corporate training helps.

If you are interested in more information, please contact us directly here.

Tue, 22 Mar 2022 06:41:58 +0000 augustin 116 at https://www.caginternationalag.com CAG International AG Implements Business Agility to Tackle Covid-19 Epidemic https://www.caginternationalag.com/blog/cag-international-ag-implements-business-agility-to-tackle-covid-19-epidemic CAG International AG Implements Business Agility to Tackle Covid-19 Epidemic augustin Tue, 03/22/2022 - 07:41

By

Kurt Larsson

2020-05-14

CAG International AG offers its proven business agility tools, its global digital learning track record and its vast consulting/coaching experience. There was a study done* regarding selling behaviors during the Great Recession of 2009-2013. Its purpose was to discover what type of sales behavior was most successful in those dark, no bid, recession days.

The different selling behaviors were divided into five groups and I do not remember how three of these groups were defined. What I do remember as important was of the remaining two there was only one behavior group that maintained its sales performance and most importantly, only one of these five groups that actually increased theirs.

The one that maintained their performance during those tough selling days were those salespeople who behaved by building strong and loyal relationships. Their performance maintained a balance during both the preceding good times as well as the bad. They normally did not out-perform in good times nor under-perform in bad, or vice versa. Yet you could always count on them for reliable delivery. In short, they made sure to take care of their vital customer relationships, regardless of the current economic environment.

The behavior group that exceeded their sales budget in hard times consisted of those sales personalities who dared challenge their customers to be better. They encouraged them to be bolder; to dare more and take more risk. This led to their customers succeeding more while they succeeded in selling more. Win/Win!

Urban Business Agility myth or not, who really cares?

As I heard of this study second hand and have never seen it directly, despite looking for it desperately for many years*, please discount its accuracy 100%. Yet is there some common-sensical part of this that we could successfully sell better with, especially during hard times?

Being Liked versus Respected

Although these two groups maintained or outperformed the other 3/5’s of the salespeople interviewed, I heard no mention of the relationship quality the fifth group, filled with challengers, had to their respective customers. Chances are, those relationships were also good AND maybe they kept pushing their limits as well. What if this is Business Agility?

Relationships can stagnate or suffer when we try to remain comfortable and liked for too long. We often become too reasonable, too nice, offer too much and end up discounting our personal integrity. Yes, you may remain likeable, but you inevitably lose the respect (and margin?) of the other person or people in the relationship. Worse yet, in a deep economic downturn you may indeed remain likeable, but your customer’s wallet still remains safely and politely hidden away.

On the other hand, those we have respect for often encourage us to accomplish unreasonable results. We may not even like them and often they don’t seem to care but somehow, they still earn our respect and then get us to do stuff way out of our comfort-zone. They help us to test and exceed our limits, to develop and find success on a higher level. They may not be reasonable, but they are masters and they get results.

Especially in a downturn, you may be able to prolong some payment dates with reasons, but you can only pay your bills with results.

Consider yourself and your colleagues challenged!

In these unprecedented times, results have become quickly and drastically hard to come by. You now need to dare WAY more to succeed. To do that you need to challenge yourself, your customers, your co-workers and your suppliers to be better, more effective and to generate results. There will be fear and there will be resistance!

To counter this, you need better presentation skills, more effective sales, marketing and business agility skills to win the day.

If this sounds interesting and you want to learn more please contact us below.

Or we invite you to order one of our books: Called Mastering Agility, Successfully Navigating Uncertainty!

Read more about it and order it here!

* If you happen to know which study I am referring to and looking for, I would be extremely grateful if you would let me know.

Fri, 26 Aug 2022 08:27:16 +0000 augustin 139 at https://www.caginternationalag.com The Power In Mastering Business Agility https://www.caginternationalag.com/blog/the-power-in-mastering-business-agility The Power In Mastering Business Agility augustin Fri, 08/26/2022 - 09:56

By

Kurt Larsson

2017-02-15

Is the phrase, “Mastering business agility”, powerful and urgent enough for you, dear reader, to actually grasp how crucial to your success business agility is becoming? In writing our book, one of Hans’ and my biggest concerns was the conscious use of the word, “Mastering“. Although the word mastery is perceived as more of a, squishy, “soft skill” term, what if the warmth and fuzziness of mastering something belies its power and usefulness?

Agility will absolutely be the key for survival and profit going forward!

With the powerful megatrends that are currently in motion such as: big data, aging demographics and easy money, to name just a few, plus the perfect storm of economical, geopolitical and environmental chaos are uniting to cause business cycles to shorten and intensify, Drastically. To avoid being on the wrong side of any of these threats and possibilities, it now requires a dramatic increase in your conscious use of business agility. To reach and maintain a heightened sense of business agility, you are encouraged to join us on the road to its mastery.

Mastery is a lifestyle, a path.

Mastery keeps you on the path of being open to learning and improving whatever you choose to master. This path to Mastery has many properties and qualities. Many of them are already covered in our book. One other noteworthy property you will find on your journey is that mastery slows down time! Think about it. If most of us ever got the chance to play tennis with a master, for instance a Connors, Borg or Agazzi, responding effectively to their serves would be next to impossible. By the time you even noticed them, their serves would already be sizzling past you. Game over! Yet, put two of these pros on the court together and they can respond to their opponent’s serve, often with time to spare. Why? Because their training and attention to detail has allowed them to expand time. They can perceive the oncoming serve as traveling slower than we do. They can then cooly and consciously respond to each serve in an agile and masterful way. This is agility! The more you consciously practice being agile, the more time you too will have to master its process and create healthy, enjoyable and sustainable business success.

We are live in a time where everything seems to be speeding up.

Have you noticed that the older we get, the faster time seems to “fly” past? Business, technology, weather, political and environmental cycles are hitting harder and more frequently, pushing more of us off-balance. These factors are causing us all more stress and dis-ease. This trend looks set to continue and intensify even more.

The danger of Expertise

In such a turbulent environment, fooling yourself into thinking that you are an expert and that you know exactly what to do is a recipe for disaster. Sooner or later, the gap between your expertise and pride disappears. Resting on your laurels or hoping to glide into retirement on what you already accomplished are rapidly becoming useless anachronisms. They will only slow you down! Eventually, all experts get sloppy, often arrogant and thus lose their edge. That’s the nature of the beast. Often it becomes worse, as many experts try to defend their expertise and the dusty institution that sponsors them. They miss the handwriting on the wall of change. This is not just a cliché! Ask anyone laid off from Nokia or Motorola about how defending business as usual turned out for them.

No room for mastery there!

Mastery also includes a dimension of presence not found in being an expert.

There is a humility, a fresh sense of childish curiosity and a sense of presence and wonder that will temper and balance your years of hard-earned experience. How can being present and curious contribute to master’s ability to slow down time?

Think of how quickly an expert goes into comparison or explanation mode. They see a situation and begin cataloguing and comparing it as in, “just like that time when… ” Done, next issue.

Yet, what if, for instance, your new situation:

Includes a twist that didn’t even exist last time?

Happens harder and faster than last time?

Was solved by people or ideas that have been retired, forgotten or misplaced?

The combination of events happens in a different sequence or different doses?

The events are just misinterpreted?

Just as you can never step into the same river twice, it borders on arrogance to believe you can predict every future outcome based upon a past experience. As Mark Twain once said, “History may not repeat, but it sure does rhyme” and this is where mastery is so much more powerful than expertise.

Mastery propels your expertise into decisive and confident action, in present time! This allows you more room to dance with and resolve the issue before you, here and now. You can now use your expertise, yet with more desperately needed agility. Your expertise now becomes one more of your many business tools and you are no longer limited by it‘s rules. You can now develop your knowledge into a new dimension. The reason you can has to do with…

Service

Practicing mastery compels you to use your expertise to serve others. It allows you to develop it further, together, rather than just craving the spotlight for personal recognition, fame and fortune. A master invites everyone interested onto his/her path, rather than selfishly keeping it hidden or guarded. To do this requires the appropriate balance of decisive action plus massive amounts of curiosity, openness and a willingness to serve others. You will also continue to learn even more yourself. What better way is there to develop agility as a lifestyle than by choosing the path of Mastery?

Therefore, when we say it is important to master business agility, we mean it literally and categorically. To be curious, vigilant and to use your expertise, in a way that both benefits and develops others, is a strong start on your path to mastery. To be open, quick and focused on the horizon, rather than the past, will support and encourage you further on your journey to business agility mastery.

Download your own complimentary
copy of the introduction to our book, “Mastering Agility, Successfully Navigating Uncertainty”, Here!

Scroll down and look to the right.

Fri, 26 Aug 2022 07:56:20 +0000 augustin 137 at https://www.caginternationalag.com Business Agility & The Greater Depression https://www.caginternationalag.com/blog/business-agility-greater-depression Business Agility & The Greater Depression augustin Fri, 08/26/2022 - 09:48

By

Kurt Larsson

2017-01-02

Will Business Agility help in a Greater Depression?

Like the proverbial frog in a pot of slowly boiling water, even if you are trained in business agility and change management you may miss slow moving megatrends while they merge to become a perfect storm.

What if that’s the case with many trends that are now over three generations old?
